ASET International Oil & Gas Training Academy to be officially opened
05/03/2012
Malcolm Webb, Chief Executive of Oil & Gas UK will be in Aberdeen on Wednesday 7th March to open the new ASET International Oil and Gas Training Academy which has relocated to Aberdeen College Altens Centre, Hareness Road, Aberdeen.
ASET is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Aberdeen College and while they will still remain as distinct legal entities, being co-located will provide increased opportunities for the sharing of resources and assets and for collaborating on a range of projects.
Since its inception in 1993, ASET has delivered oil and gas related and marine training in Aberdeen to operators and contractors in the UK Continental Shelf and to almost every area in the world where there is oil and gas activity, including the Middle East, North and West Africa and South America.
With over £10 million invested in equipment and facilities this latest move has enabled the company to expand and re-equip with the very latest in technology and confirm ASET as one of the leading training companies in this specialist field.
Principal Rob Wallen said, "The College and ASET have both invested significant sums of money in upgrading key facilities – most noticeably the former Eagle production training platform, now to be re-launched as the AbCol platform. By upgrading the facilities we will continue to underpin the training needs of the North Sea industry, fulfill global demand for specialist training and reaffirm Aberdeen as a market leader."
Malcolm Webb was delighted when asked to open the new premises. He said, "Over the last forty years, thousands of companies with the technology and expertise required to extract the UK's oil and gas reserves have established themselves here in Aberdeen, across Scotland and the UK. These range from leaders in subsea engineering and structural integrity work to companies like ASET specialising in training people to the high standards required for safe offshore operations. With up to 24 billion barrels of oil and gas still to be extracted from the UK continental shelf and far more from other oil and gas provinces around the world, the demand for highly skilled people is here to stay the investment made by ASET will help ensure the UK can continue to respond to that need."
Chief Executive and Executive Director, Atholl Menzies, heads the highly proactive ASET team who have researched, developed and marketed a wide range of training courses and programmes for electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and process technicians in just about any oil-producing country you care to name.
Atholl concludes, "We have successfully built up our brand through investing in high quality people and really impressive facilities. We are very clear about our long-term objectives, and, above all, we are prepared to adapt and customize our products to suit both local and overseas demand whenever necessary. That is, we believe, the basis of a sound strategy for continued growth and profitability."
