Emergency Management Training and Assessment
ASET is a leading provider of Emergency Management Training and Assessment for the offshore Oil & Gas industry, and has gained an excellent reputation for the quality of training provided. Our Offshore Installation Manager, Management of Major Emergencies and Control Room Operator courses are accredited by OPITO.
Major clients have now partnered with ASET on a number of occasions to combine their OIM assessments with team-building events involving the Emergency Response Team. These events combine teaching, training, coaching and assessment, and have earned ASET recognition as 'Best in Class' on numerous occasions.
Our instructors have valuable offshore experience operating as OIMs and CROs in a variety of situations, and are qualified in training, coaching and assessing personnel involved in Emergency Response offshore.
We focus on team building, recognising that controlling emergencies and critical situations is a team effort. We aim to encourage the relationship between managers and Emergency Response Teams through our training. We also aim to develop the strength of individuals, encouraging development and spending time coaching and mentoring delegates to reach their full potential. We also give individual feedback, allowing the opportunity for reflection within each learning outcome.
Aberdeen College/ASET Gallowgate Centre
Marine Training
ASET/Aberdeen College were the first training establishments to offer commercially available simulated training in Dynamic Positioning, Offshore Stability and Ballast Control for semi–submersible rigs and Marine Operations of Self Elevating Platforms (Jack-ups). ASET has continually re–invested in new technology in order to ensure that client needs are met in full.
Dynamic Positioning
Our DP Training suite provides the latest ConverTeam Alstom, and Kongsberg Simrad Duplex simulators and can provide training for 6 delegates on any one course at one time. We believe in giving training with significant 'hands on' experience and equipment for the student.
Training is validated by the Nautical Institute (NI).
Stability and Ballast Control
ASET has been providing courses in semi–submersible stability and ballast control for many years and has one of the world's most advanced Jack–Up & Ballast Control simulators. This simulator provides realistic movement and reaction in relation to changes in sea–state, weight loading and also changes in the mooring pattern
Ballast Control Mooring System (BCMS) Comprises:
- Tilting Table
- Hydraulics
- Operating consoles complete with mimic board and computer interface
- Computer with highly advanced simulation software.
Stability Courses fully comply with the IADC/NI guidelines for the selection and training of Ballast Control Operators and the 'IMO Resolution A891(21)' for the training of MOU operators, and are approved by the Flag State Vanuatu.
Marine Operations of Self Elevating Platforms (Jack–Up)
ASET utilises a dynamic simulator in a similar way to the Ballast control. Once again, this training is unique and allows students to experience failure modes such as 'punch–through'.
Radiotelephony
Our Radiotelephony department has a history of over 25 years in providing a wide range of MCA approved and internationally recognised radio courses to industry.
Equipment includes:
- VHF/MF/HF Radio Equipment
- Inmarsat Equipment.

Aberdeen College/ASET Altens Centre
Our Ex Hazardous Areas Training Centre offers competence-based training and assessment for personnel involved in the installation, inspection and maintenance of electrical equipment in potentially hazardous environments. Legislation and guidance for the safe use of electricity in hazardous areas is a vital subject to today's oil & gas industry. It has its origins in the German and British Coal industries of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Since then it has become a subject in its own right, and is legislated by its own Awarding Body. Proven competence in the use of such equipment is vital in the avoidance of risk, and in the majority of countries the law requires proven competence.
ASET is a world leader in the provision of competence based training in Ex and our expertise includes areas made hazardous through both gas and dusts.
Our courses meet the latest standards of BS, EN, ISO and IEC, they cover all aspects of Ex except for mines. We are validated to provide courses to the national standard and we provide 60% of the COMPEX training in the UK.
The Ex facility in Aberdeen includes a purpose built unit where up to 24 students at one time are able to get hands-on experience of the equipment and where practical competence may be assessed. We have an alliance with Nova Scotia Community College to provide similar training in Canada and we are able to provide theory courses overseas and consultancy wherever it is required.
